The Department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy (IPPH) at Purdue University is an academic department in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. It is located in the R. E. Heine Pharmacy Building on the main (West Lafayette) campus of the University. See the administration page for information on how to contact IPPH.
The IPPH department is involved in teaching, research, and service in all areas of pharmaceutics, with emphasis on the following three major, interrelated areas: industrial pharmacy; biopharmaceutics/pharmacokinetics; and physical pharmacy. In addition, the Division of Nuclear Pharmacy provides instruction, research, and service in the areas of radiopharmaceuticals and nuclear pharmacy.
The nature of present day pharmaceutical research frequently involves the applications of principles from all of these areas in solving a given problem. Research concerned with drug product or dosage form design requires the interplay of all three areas in the development of products combining optimum stability, safety, efficacy, and reliability of drug response.
The IPPH department's graduate academic program offers a Ph.D. in pharmaceutics and non-thesis M.S. programs in selected areas, including Nuclear Pharmacy and Regulatory and Quality Compliance. Admissions to the Ph.D. graduate program in Industrial and Physical Pharmacy for Fall 2009 are closed as of January 1, 2009. The department will begin accepting Ph.D. program applications for Fall 2010 on September 1, 2009. The deadline for Fall 2010 Ph.D. program applications is January 1, 2010. The faculty also teach in two programs offered by the School of Pharmacy: Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS) and the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.).
The department offers two programs in regulatory and quality compliance:
- Graduate Certificate Program in Regulatory and Quality Compliance: This is a non-traditional graduate program designed for professionals in regulatory and quality compliance in the pharmaceutical industry.
- MS degree in IPPH with a concentration in Regulatory and Quality Compliance: This is a non-traditional graduate program designed for professionals in regulatory and quality compliance in the pharmaceutical industry. Students may enter the non-thesis master's degree directly or following completion of the Graduate Certificate Program.
